I got the
chance to play some wheelchair rugby while I was an inpatient at the
Shepherd Center in Atlanta. The local team let any patients in the
hospital practice with them at night in the gym. After I was
convinced to try it, I was hooked. While in the rugby chair, I
wasn't thinking about anything but rugby, an escape I hadn't felt in
months. I knew I needed to continue playing once I got
home.

After returning to New
Jersey, I found out the local rugby team practices in Hackensack
every week. I was excited, but the season was just ending. Near the
end of the next summer (2005), I got information about the first NY
Spinal Jets pracice. I started showing up, and about 3 to 4 weeks of
observing, Victor from United Spinal hooked me up with a chair I
could use. I began practicing with the team, and immediately felt a
part of the rugby family. Although we are a young, inexperienced
team, we are improving each week. Click here to check out some pictures of the
Jets.
